Referring

Why do I need a referral?

Ophthalmologists or Retinal surgeons are Specialists.  Medicare only cover you if referral details are indicated on your invoice when you visit a Specialist.  Yearly visits may require your referral to be updated by your GP or Optometrists

Who do I get a referral from?

Referrals can be obtained from either your GP or Optometrist or another Specialist. They can be issued for 3 months, 12 months or for an Indefinite period.

What is an Indefinite Referral?

This is ongoing referral usually related to a specific condition. Indefinite referrals for a specific condition do not require annual updates.
